Event: Innovation That Cuts Through in Modern Marketing
Overview
Beyond the Brief (BTB) is a marketing event series designed to bring together NSW’s marketing community through insightful conversations, professional networking and thought leadership. The inaugural event, Innovation That Cuts Through in Modern Marketing, was delivered as a panel luncheon hosted at Macquarie University City Campus in the Sydney CBD.
Developed in partnership with Icon Corporate Events, sponsored by T Garage Strategy & Research and supported by Australian Marketing Institute NSW, the event brought together senior marketing professionals to explore how innovation is reshaping modern marketing practices across industries.
The event formed part of a quarterly series designed to empower marketers to grow, connect and lead, while strengthening the professional community through meaningful peer-to-peer engagement.

The Objective
The event series was developed to achieve several strategic objectives.
For Australian Marketing Institute:
Drive membership growth and engagement within the NSW marketing community
Deliver high-value professional development events
Foster stronger connections between marketing professionals
For T Garage Strategy & Research:
Attract senior marketing leaders from larger organisations and FMCG brands
Deliver high-quality thought leadership content
Strengthen collaboration between sponsors, partners and the marketing community
The broader ambition was to create an event format that went beyond traditional networking, delivering both practical insights and meaningful professional connections.

Event Format and Experience
The event was structured as a 2.5-hour luncheon panel experience designed to balance thought leadership with engagement.
Key elements included:
Panel Discussion – A relaxed but insightful discussion format where industry experts explored how brands are driving innovation through culture, insight and technology.
Partner Activation - Red Tomato Promotions created an exciting embroidery and engraving activation, offering attendees the opportunity to personalise custom gifts on-site. The interactive experience added a memorable touch to the event, allowing guests to leave with a unique keepsake.
Bento Box Catering - Provided a convenient and engaging dining experience, allowing attendees to mingle while enjoying a variety of nibbles. The format encouraged movement and conversation, helping to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout the event.
This format created a dynamic environment where learning and connection happened naturally, rather than through formal presentations alone.
Key Discussion Themes
The panel focused on three major themes shaping modern marketing innovation.
1. Innovation Starts with Culture - Speakers explored how the most successful brands create internal environments that encourage curiosity, experimentation and creative thinking.
2. Insights Are the Real Competitive Advantage - The discussion highlighted how powerful consumer insights can unlock growth opportunities by rethinking existing products, services and brand positioning.
3. Technology and Creativity Drive Breakthroughs - Emerging technologies such as AI, automation and connected platforms were discussed as tools that amplify creativity and unlock new ways to engage audiences.
